Partnership Highlight

Our partnership with Benjamin Moore reflects what happens when values align—access expands, opportunities grow, and impact becomes tangible. It reinforces truth: it should be easy to do business with those who genuinely support you. This collaboration is rooted in mutual respect and a shared commitment to elevating Black designers in meaningful, measurable ways.

Color as Foundation: A Design Editorial Feature

Black Interior Designers Inc. is inviting members and emerging designers to submit completed projects for consideration in an upcoming editorial feature produced in partnership with Benjamin Moore.

This feature is built around a single premise: color is not a finishing touch. It is a design decision — one that shapes how a space is experienced, understood, and remembered. We're looking for work that demonstrates that understanding.

Selected projects will be featured across BID's editorial platform and digital ecosystem, with expanded visibility opportunities through the Benjamin Moore partnership.

What We're Looking For

Designers who have:

  • Completed residential, commercial, or hospitality projects

  • Integrated color as a purposeful, foundational element of the design

  • A story about the space — the intention behind it and how it came to life

Project Submissions are ongoing and require the use of Benjamin Moore products.

BID Members receive priority consideration for all submissions.

Kayla Chambers is a second-year Howard University College of Fine Arts student, pursuing a degree in Interior Design with a minor in Business Administration. She currently maintains a 3.8 GPA and has received honors such as the Academic Scholar Award, Dean’s List, NC College/UNC Endorsement, NC Career Endorsement, and Leadership Award throughout her academic career. Some of the community service organizations she serves with are The Red Cross, Radical Readers, and The Ladies of the Quad Social Club which have all allowed her to give back to her on-campus community.

Following her undergraduate years, Kayla plans to start her interior design career in commercial design while working to earn her real estate license, later entering the residential field of design where her passion lies. Her end goal is to own an interior design firm and to jumpstart a nonprofit organization that aims to use design in underserved communities.

On September 22, Black Interior Designers Inc., Benjamin Moore and Save Iconic Architecture hosted a special celebration of architectural heritage at the iconic Beverly Hills Hotel. On campus and in the community, Jaiyah serves as the Public Relations Chair of the Ohio State Club and is an active member of the University Fashion Council. Her commitment to service includes volunteering with the Red Cross, Bread for the City, Casey Trees, and Hathaway Brown School.

After graduation, Jaiyah plans to launch her design career at a hospitality-focused commercial interior design firm in Washington, D.C., where she can expand her technical skills, grow her network, and begin building her professional brand. She also plans to earn her real estate license to deepen the connection between space and ownership, and to champion design that’s sustainable and culturally intentional. Long term, Jaiyah envisions leading her own interior design firm in California with a specialized focus on hospitality and real estate integration. Her dream is to create a nonprofit that advances community-led, inclusive design in low-income neighborhoods.

Trade School: Exploring the Creative Worlds of Interior Design & Paint

In partnership with Benjamin Moore and Black Interior Designers Inc., this program brings the design industry directly to the next generation — creating an informed, immersive introduction to the worlds of interior design and architectural paint for KIPP students.

The program is structured as three 90-minute sessions, each designed to move students from curiosity to confidence. Rather than a lecture, each session functions as a designed experience: a moderated panel with working interior designers and contractors, a hands-on color and concept sprint, and student-led presentations that close the loop between learning and doing.

The goal is not just awareness — it's access. Students leave with a clearer picture of what a career in design actually looks like, who holds those roles, and how to begin building toward them.
